Seaplane Houseboat, Packers Creek, Port Douglas

This seaplane houseboat was designed to accommodate the winching of a Seaplane onto its deck, at the same time as being accommodation and a base for passengers to board and be taken for commercial flights over and onto the Great Barrier Reef.

This passionate aviator and pilot had the vision to commercially operate his own private seaplane as a unique viable business that offered customers a once-in-a-life-time experience. We designed the boathouse to include rooms for short-term accommodation, bathroom and kitchen facilities as well as the ramp and seaplane docking location. One of the most enjoyable challenges was finding a mooring location for the Seaplane houseboat in the habitat of far Northern Queensland crocodiles.
